Thanks for sharing those emails about the new logo. With regards to one of the comments - how someone's Scottish ancestors would be turning in their graves - I beg to differ.
Leaving aside that those first settlers were the antithesis of bowing to tradition, with many of them coming to Dunedin for a new start, they believed strongly in the importance of education.
I really don't think those Scottish founders would have wanted the University to remain fixed in time - that would be at odds with the spirit of education and research.
I support the new logo, although I do agree that it could be mistaken for some bananas if you have astigmatism, because I like what it represents. (They kind of got me immediately with the video opening with the waiata and Tairoa head which got me all homesick!) I do think it is time for change and we should be reflecting everyone in Otago's history as well as modern NZ.
However, I also agree with the comments regarding the timing of it - definitely "tone deaf" at a time of redundancies and cuts. How long ago did they commit the budget for this? Before they realised the need for those cuts? And even then, could it not have been delayed even if the work had been done? How do Ngāi Tahu fell about the timing?
The whole Michael Woodhouse thing is hilarious. The ODT gave him quite a bit of space to diss his own party, that was excellent. I thought Claire Curran's comment on FB was apt. As for the complainers, I do feel they are a vocal minority. Let's hope so anyway.
It was an excellent frontpage story. I always found MW agreeable to deal with, shame his career has ended like this and Dunedin is likely to miss out on more represenation in Parliament.
Man, heaps to digest this week. Most of those logo comments are largely racism motivated. I am certain if people were penning their responses rather than using a keyboard they'd be less vitriolic.
1kg of cheese is down to $9 at Countdown. I enjoyed lockdown and I am forever grateful for our world leading response.
I’m 100% supportive on the name, 0% supportive on the timing, and a bit ‘meh’ on the logo....let’s call it 20%. Am wondering...Perhaps you need to spend more than 1.3m to get a great logo? Unfortunately in the feedback emails, all agendas got merged into one ugly soup with racist tones. Plus ( since I’m commenting ) I found an auto correct! Love it when that happens to someone else. Conversation?
That is not a campaign video. It is a CHCH-based video maker who makes videos of interesting people/topics. It is two years from another election . . .
Unfortunately empty of any substance in regards to her work (or lack of work) on Council. To me it presents as an extended version of one of Mandy's speeches during the last election. Although she doesn't mention anything about men in skirts.
Dear Miss Asia. I love a rebrand, had no issue with this one. But timing is everything: you don't invade Russia with winter approaching, and you don't advance a rebrand in the middle of restructuring. The problem with the latter is that people have unfairly targeted the rebranding as the cause.
Dental School!

Great comments Melissa. Iwi reps were delighted it had gone through, the timing was due to the uni

I did not know this about cheese. NZ was the envy of the world, but we are have short attention spans domestically.

Good song again - Allophones! Hope their chickens live long and prosper..
Lol. You give great comments P.K
Is Mandy doing anything now that she is on Council?
Because that looks like an election campaign video to me.

What’s your thoughts on the rebrand McScoop?
