Great reminder. Just registered to vote. And will not vote for Weatherall.

Don't forget the flood of 1980: "The flood in June 1980 caused widespread devastation across the Taieri Plain leaving Dunedin Airport closed for 52 days and causing the death of nearly 2000 farm animals, some found in trees." Imagine almost 2 months without an airport!

One thing that hasn’t been clarified is if Mr Weatherall’s staff were given a paid week off, or were they just forced to take annual leave? He makes it out like he’s doing them a favour but just imagine if they were just being forced to take a week of annual leave or otherwise have it unpaid - for their ‘wellness’.

I remember there was huge flooding in Dunedin in 1968 on the same day as the Wahine tragedy, my mum took me for a walk to see the Ōwheo / the Leith which had overflowed its banks on to Forth Street – it was a flooded bridge! Don't see that too often. While looking for references for this comment, I found that NIWA has a 'NZ Historic Weather Events Catalogue' https://hwe.niwa.co.nz/event/March_1968_South_Island_Flooding

Also found a good article by Ali Clarke and some interesting photos here: https://otago150years.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/water-of-leith-friend-or-foe/

I seemed to lose a hard disk in a flood of about 3 years ago.

I wonder if it's still watertight.
