Love the follow up on my old friend Steve, great local lad who has always know how to entertain. I also wonder why the Government didn't increase the Medical School numbers this year 🤔 surely every extra doctor qualified is essential for our health system. Working out some kind of bonding system to keep these graduates in our health system would be a smart move.

Appreciate you continuing the free wednesday newsletter (at least for now? Be understandable if you flipped that around & continued the Friday edition for subscribers)

The section on Otago uni - to be honest has me gobsmacked at how the actual differs from the perceived stats? What are the implications for staff and students who have had to be making (huge, for many) decisions based on information as understood by Uni management?

A conversation framed around enrolments vs retention might not change much for some, however it would have led to other conversations that could be more constructive for the uni? And for advocating to govt to lift their game in regards to supporting universities?

I mean, if it’s about retention, then how on earth is gutting programmes going to keep students there (& attract more)?

Gobsmacked & infuriated for staff and students & Ōtepoti wider community (cos we all in some way rely on the uni)
